Habitat for Humanity Virginia is a state support organization of Habitat for Humanity International. We were incorporated as a 501 C 3 Virginia corporation on May 11, 2005. This office provides support in four ways:
- Accessing funds to increase production to reach a goal of 2000 Habitat homes in Virginia by December 2008.
- Raising public awareness and support for the Habitat mission with major public events in 2006 and 2007.
- Education and advocacy at local and state levels to promote support for affordable housing and the Habitat program in Virginia.
- Promote capacity building programs and services for affiliates in Virginia.
The 52 Virginia affiliates have provided home ownership to more than 1375 first time home buyers since the first affiliate was incorporated in 1986.
Habitat International has built over 200,000 homes in 100 countries, housing more than 1 million people.
Habitat is both builder and mortgage lender, building with donated labor and materials, pricing the homes at cost, and holding zero interest mortgages.
